YOUNG SCULPTORS AWARDS

History of the Young Sculptors Competition The Young Sculptors Awards Competition is sponsored by the National Sculpture Society. The program was initiated in 1959 with the first presentation of the John Gregory Award of $500 to a young sculptor for “a sculpture showing originality and imagination”. Over the years other prizes designated for young sculptors were added to encourage emerging talent. Some of these prizes were presented for a limited number of years, while others will be given in perpetuity.

Eligibility Each competitor must be an emerging sculptor, between the ages of 18 and 39. Applicants must be United States citizens or residents with a social security number.

Selection of Winners Members of the National Sculpture Society’s Education Committee will select as well as jury the the Young Sculptors Competition based on the images submitted.

Judging Criteria Each award is given for a particular aspect of sculpture as described below.

YOUNG SCULPTOR AWARDS: Dexter Jones Award, $1,000
Given to a young sculptor for the best work of sculpture in bas relief.
Roger T. Williams Prize, $750
Awarded to a young sculptor who reaches of excellence in representational sculpture.
Edward Fenno Hoffman Prize, $350
Awarded to a young sculptor who strives to uplift the human sprit through the medium of his / her art.
Gloria Medal, Designed by C. Paul Jennewein
Given in his memory for a meritorious body of work.

Award Ceremony The award ceremony will be held on Friday afternoon, June 20th, at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, following the conclusion of the figure modeling competition. Both the Young Sculptor Awards and the Figure Modeling Awards will be presented during the ceremony and reception. Award recipients not participating in the figure modeling competition and or who are unable to attend the award ceremony will receive a letter of notification by mail. Winners will have a photo of their work published in the National Sculpture Society's News Bulletin
